Corliss Dodge was born in Hillsboro, N.D. on May 11, 1922. She later moved with her family to Mandan, where she graduated from Mandan High School. She attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. and also Mary College in Bismarck. She married William C. Mushik on June 14, 1950. Before being elected to public office, Mushik worked as a legal secretary for Gallagher Law Firm, sold real estate, and co-owned and managed Bill's Liquor Store.
